The mill is probably a mid-eighteenth century oatmeal mill
The Mill was built and owned by the laird of the estate and let to a tenant miller or ‘tacksman’.
The construction of the building indicates that the building housing the mill machinery (on the east side) was built first in a position which would allow water to be taken in a loop from the Migdale burn to the storage pond (across the road), achieving as much ‘fall’ as possible to provide power to drive the wheel..
The kiln or ‘kylle’ (old Scots) building and adjacent barn were probably added at a later date.
